Buffs need to go Big or go home

I last discussed the super conference scenarios for the Colorado Buffaloes on this particular blog 11-years ago.

At that point, the Pac-12 was looking to expand after Texas A&M bolted from the Big-12 to the SEC. Several Big-12 teams looked to move over to the recently expanded 'conference of champions' to join Colorado and Utah in that once, happy, healthy, collegiate sports alliance.

Looking back, the Pac-12 should have expanded then and a year or so ago when Texas and Oklahoma announced they were finally following Texas A&M to the SEC.

Hindsight, as we often say here, is 20/20 and now that's what college football may look like with a pair of 20-team super conferences led by the Big-Ten and SEC.

While not officially official, it sounds like the two richest programs in the Pac-12 are bolting for the Big-10, as early as 2024.

For the new look Pac-10, and Washington looking to see if they can find a way to follow USC and UCLA, the rest of the west may be on the outside looking in at the national powerhouse stage.

If I am CU Athletic Director Rick George, I think I am calling the Big Ten and inviting them for an official campus visit.

It's time for the most important recruitment in Buff football history.

It's time to go Big.

BIG Big, as in the Big Ten and not the remnants of the once mighty Big-12.

The Big-12 is not worth the return of the Buffs if there is no Nebraska, Oklahoma or Texas to deal with.

At least Colorado would have their Cornhuskers back, and a final chance to get a ticket to the big dance with the northern super conference.

It could be a longshot, as the Big Ten will be able to pick and choose at this point, and watch the line of potential members form a line from Iowa State to Stanford.

Let the Big Ten commish have a play date with Ralphie.

Let them do the mall crawl on Pearl Street, before Halloween.

Let the Big Ten use the Flatirons on recruiting posters to lure some high school players away from the SEC, the real super conference in the deal.

The Buffs only hope for a shot for their rebuild to continue is in one of the remaining super conferences and not who ever is left standing when the music stops playing and there are no chairs left in the Big Ten or SEC.

Hey, I love Mountain West football, because I grew up around it. The rest of the country doesn't care that Wyoming is feisty or that Boise State has blue astroturf, they just want big time football.

The Buffs could add some fun to whatever the Leftover Conference that forms from the Pac-12/Big-12, but it will not get the love or money the giant conferences are gaining with each new big time recruit.

Give the Big-Ten the free tour at the Coors plant, and as much cheap beer as they can hold.

Call the Avs and let the Big-Ten hold the Stanley Cup.

Get new Denver Broncos' sensation, DangeRuss Wilson on the phone and have him sell the Buffs.

Someone see if Coach McCartney is feeling well, because he could sell the Buffs to anyone, he was that good with the pep talks.

Call someone. Call anyone.

Just do it quick, before the music stops.

Go Big Buffs. Go Big or we all go home.
